Abstract

The direct and efficient synthesis of meso-substituted porphyrins from the reaction of N-tosyl imines with pyrrole in the presence of environmentally friendly catalysts, Cu(OTt)(2) and Montmorillonite K-10 clay, is described. The advantages of the new method include mild reaction conditions and using environmentally friendly catalysts which can be recovered and reused after the reactions without any significant loss of catalytic activity.
