Abstract

The most distinctive element of the Ataturk era (1923-1938) is defined as the fact that Ataturk's reforms aiming modernization in every domain have alternated on the axis of nationalism and Occidentalism during a 15-year period and launched thus a radical process of transformation in the country. The reforms of Ataturk, qualified as the re-construction of the cultural structure, are considered within the scope of our country's cultural policy in terms of their objectives and impacts. The reforms toward nationalization and adoption of occidental practices that represent change in an integrated approach are explained as a total cultural transformation.
