Abstract

The electroreduction behavior of four quinones in acetonitrile in the presence and absence of anhydrous perchloric acid was investigated. The anhydrous perchloric acid was prepared by the electrooxidation of the dissolved molecular hydrogen in the same medium. The results of the cyclic voltammetric and the controlled potential electrolysis experiments were used in proposing the mechanism of the electroreduction. It was established that the use of an anhydrous strong proton donor revealed more details in the electroreduction mechanism of the quinones. © 1993.
