Özet

The Euro crisis has increased the debates regarding the European Union's democratic legitimacy considering the lack of an efficient solution by the followed policies up to now and the quality of decision-making process. European Union's democratic legitimacy has been negatively affected by various facts such as the decisive role in agenda setting played by European Council and European Central Bank. Likewise, increase in Commission's operational powers shadows its impartiality and changes the character of the relationship between the Union and its citizens. In addition, the facts such as technocracy, populism, and euroscepticism have strengthened the claim that the European Union's democratic legitimacy has diminished both on European and national level.
