The city history going back to 3000 years B.C. has led to the improvment of an extensive traditional music culture within the Ankara city center and the neighbouring towns. This traditional music culture naturally carries the structures and symbols of various music cultures hosted by Ankara. Moreover, Alevi belief system which is quite widespread within the city and the connected towns specifically in the Çubuk region seems to be a main source for the symbolic structures of the religious music examples. The aim of this study, is to make a research on the “cem” rituals of the Alevi villages in the Çubuk region concentrating mainly in the forms, the functions and the symbolic characteristics of religious music examples performed during these rituals and to detect the possible similarities and the differences of these examples with the ones experienced in the regions sharing the similar “ocak” system with Çubuk region. Therefore, Çankırı Şabanözü region which has strong connections with Çubuk among the Alevi “ocak” system was also included in the study to examine the musical reflections of these connections of faith. Interviews, recordings acquired from regional surveys performed by the author will be utilized to perform the study. Also knowledge and data support is taken from the previous research studies performed in the region.
