Abstract

In addition to influence the in vivo distribution of the liposome itself, different membrane compositions can alter the way in which the liposomal contents are released. In particular, the composition can be arranged so that the release is site-specific, in response to environmental conditions, either at the gross anatomical level, at the cellular or at the subcellular level. Mechanisms aimed at targeting at each of these levels are temperature and pH-sensitive liposomes.
