Abstract

Niosomes were prepared using the film method, followed by extrusion. Iopromide, a radiopharmaceutical of choice for kidney imaging, was entrapped in multilamellar vesicles of positive surface charge. The organ specificity of the radiopaque drug with encapsulation in niosomes was studied in rats. The obtained results showed that iopromide entrapped in multilamellar vesicles can be targeted to the kidney. Formulation S-1 (hexadecyl poly(3)glycerol/stearylamine/cholesterol, 7/2/4, gel state) was obtained as the best composition of niosomes. In addition, computed tomography imaging was evaluated.
