Özet

The story of Joseph is one of the universal themes that attracted scholarly attention not only in Yusuf u Zuleyha masnavis of the classical Turkish literature but also in modern Turkish literature and many branches of arts. When western and oriental works on the topic are considered, the impact of the story stretches across a wide geography. The story permits repetitions transformation and rewriting, which in turn makes it a hypertexte in terms of intertextual relationships. The motives and themes of the story are its irreplaceable universals. The story as a referent has continuously been cited, repeated, and reproduced in literature, theatre, cinema, opera and many other disciplines of art. The conversion pattern is transferred to contemporary events of the past or the old text will create a new content. This study aims to outline some of the transformations on major examples. The methodology pursued in this article was inspired by Prof. Dr. Kubilay Aktulum's article where he examined Nasreddin Hodja's stories as the hypertexte and depicted some transformations. Previously mentioned sources of stories, then the examples mentioned in the eastern and western art under the reformulation name and finally were talking about some conversion done on The Story of Joseph. The breadth of emergent materials while determining rewritting texts of the story of Joseph as a hypertexte is rich enough for several interconnected pieces of work. However, this article as an introduction endeavours to show some intertextual and intersemiotic transformations in the story of Joseph.
