An experimental investigation was undertaken to measure the Spectral Induced polarization response (0,046 Hz- 12 kHz) of unconsolidated sand-clay mixtures. These mixtures are also saturated by the demineralized water. Two types of clay, kaolinite and bentonite (mainly Na montmorillonite) were used with a various percentage. SIP-Fuchs II device and a four-electrode configuration were chosen during the measurement. We have compared these two types of clay. The results show the strong impact of the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the studied clay minerals. Moreover, a heating process (150°, during two days) has been applied to an artificial sample with kaolin and sand material to examine the changes in the polarization effects. Unlike Vacquier et al., 1957 we do not observed a significant change neither on the magnitude nor on the phase component. Moreover, our data do not show an optimum of clay content for which the polarization processes would be maximum. The SIP monitoring of the saturated bentonite material during a 5 days does not show meaningful different about the electrochemical process.
