  • Özet:

Hacettepe University, that provides education in a wide variety of fields such as medicine, social sciences, science, engineering, education, fine arts and the conservatoire, is quite well known for its high academic performance, has also realised many important cultural and  arts projects with the aim of enriching the intellectual life of both the campus and the city ever since it was established.

The Faculty of Fine Arts and the Conservatoire which are among the prominent institutions that provide training in the field of arts have contributed to these fields through the work of the many artists who are Hacettepe graduates. Moreover, the University boasts an Art Museum, one of the earliest  that set the tradition of university art museums in Turkey holding a collection of more than 400 Turkish  artworks and makes an important contribution to the local and national cultural heritage.

The University enjoys the richness provided by the integration of many different disciplines. In keeping with the mission of the University and the social projects it carries out, the university places great importance on cultural projects that will contribute to the cultural and artistic development of the community.

Hacettepe University that plays an important role in doing research related to social problems and finding solutions to these and to promoting art on the national and international arena, believes in being in close touch with the society.

An ideal we truly believe in…

We believe that a colourful campus life, and an outstanding scientific academic performance can only be possible if the university provides diverse opportunities and an environment that nurtures not only the brains, but also the spirit. We believe that it is necessary to be innovative and to provide leadership in developing human productivity and making the marriage of science, culture and art possible.

We have a dream… to realise this dream by prioritising art.

We are aware of the fact that as a part and parcel of man/woman’s desire to attain the beautiful, art is functional in enabling people to learn and develop their culture.

Knowing that it is possible to create a totally different campus, we want to launch the CAMPUSART project.

As the Faculties of Letters, Fine Arts, Communication and the Conservatoire, we have joined forces to present our art products in different formats and on an interdisciplinary platform. We have set out to present activities, performances and installations in untraditional, dynamic ways through mobile and experimental formats and we have decided to host performances and permanent artworks on campus.

We have designed CAMPUSART as a mischievous child, not to be contained in halls with repeat performances. CAMPUSART has been designed to be dream-like , like life coming alive with each new idea, in a new location and in a new form. Hence, CAMPUSART is going to take shape as “Art on  Campus,” “Campus in art” or “Art that goes beyond the Campus.”

We hope to make it possible for all to experience different art forms on the campus grounds, to meet the artists/writers in person, to have a chance to chat with the artists themselves paving the way to learn more about the art and the artist and to develop a critical mindset.

Art liberates and this liberty enhances a critical outlook. More art will energise campus life, will bring together people living on  campus and will enrich the  lives of all beyond the limits of the campus. This project is rooted  in the fact that Hacettepe Universiy, in its 51-year history, has always been a university which is in touch with the city, and has left its mark on the city.

We hope to contribute to the intellectual and artistic world of those who live on  campus as well as  to the cultural activities of Ankara.

It is undeniable that, unless the universities aim to contribute to the intellectual and artistic platforms as well as to scientific development, they cannot take their place among the top most institutions of the society and will not be able to contribute to social development, because it is only possible to achieve development through the agency of modern man/woman and modern environment that are supported by science and technology. One of the major factors for success is to enrich campus life by investing in the cultural and intellectual activities and to define campuses not only as buildings, laboratories and classrooms, but also as institutions providing  cultural and intellectual activities.

We hope that CAMPUSART will provide an important contribution to such activities.

Hacettepe University CAMPUSART will be a regular annual activity taking place in April.

The Rector of Hacettepe University will invite the Steering Committee members on the 1st of June every year to meet and begin working on the activities of CAMPUSART of the following year.
