Material and method: One hundred twenty seven patients with knee osteoarthritis were evaluated. Sixty seven patients were included in the study. Patients were divided in two groups as a group program and home program according to their suffering pain. We compared knee extension muscle strength, WOMAC Osteoarthritis Index, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), and Timed up and Go (TUG) scores, before and after Pilates exercise programs. Group program was applied three times a week for four weeks. Each session last approximately 60 minutes. Home program was controlled every week for four weeks. All patients were participated patient education sessions once a month. Results: An improvement was recorded statistically in all parameters according to pretreatment values (p<0.05) except for TUG in both group program and home program. Changes of the parameters with exercise education was higher in group program (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results showed that Pilates exercises are an effective and a clinically practicable approach for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, and it may be more effective when group exercise is applied.
