Yersinia enterocolitica is now generally accepted as a human pathogen. This microorganism is widely distributed in the environment and may be isolated from a wide variety of foods. Turkish pickled white cheese samples have been investigated for Y. enterocolitica. For this purpose 66 samples were collected at random. Nineteen cheese samples (28.8%) were found to be positive according to both biochemical tests and typical appearance of colonies on selective media.
