Özet

The computational analysis is conducted to solve the thermoelastic contact problem between a rigid flat punch and a functionally graded material (FGM) whose properties vary in lateral direction. As the rigid flat punch slides over the laterally graded substrate, heat is generated due to the friction between the punch and the substrate. Friction between the rigid punch and the substrate is modeled based on Coulomb’s friction law and punch sliding speed is assumed small to neglect inertia effects. Generated heat in the contact region must be in equilibrium to obtain the steady state contact stress and temperature distributions. Therefore, a computer code is developed and implemented based on finite element analysis. Computational results obtained by the present method are compared with those available in the literature and a high level of accuracy is attained. After verification is achieved, the influence of punch speed is examined on surface and subsurface contact stresses. It is observed that generated frictional heat is related with the punch speed and it has a considerable effect on contact stresses and temperature distribution on the surface of laterally graded substrate.
