Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques (PNF) and weight training on muscle strength and functional status of the upper extremity and satisfaction in patients with myopathy. Material and method: Forty-eight patients were included the study. After the first evaluation that consisted of pain, upper extremity muscle strength and functional status, subjects were assigned into two groups. PNF was applied to the first group and low-density weight training was applied to the upper extremities three days in a week for eight weeks to the second group. Strengthening exercises for neck, abdominal, back and lower extremity mucles, breathing exercises, stretching exercises and functional mobility training were applied for both groups. Evaluations were repeated after strengthening training, Results: It was observed that after eight weeks strength training, total upper extremity muscle strength increased in both groups (p<0.05). Upper extremity functional level did not change in either of the groups after exercise program (p>0.05), There was no difference between the groups in favor of muscle strength and functional level (p>0.05). Conclusion: We concluded that the results of our study would give some clues to physiotherapists who are working in the field of renabilitation of neuromuscular diseases in choosing exercises and motivate for them further studies.
