Citation Analysis of Dissertations Completed at Hacettepe University Department of Information Management

Özet

This study analyzes the bibliometric features of the citations of master's and doctoral dissertations completed at the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University. Major findings of the study are as follows: The average number of dissertations completed at the Department per year was four. The most frequently used research method in the dissertations was survey. University libraries, public libraries, reading habits and user studies were the most frequently studied topics. Nilufer Tuncer, Irfan Cakin and Yasar Tonta were the advisors of 46% of all dissertations. Nilufer Tuncer also served as a jury member most frequently. Monographs received 42% of all citations. On the other hand, journals, electronic publications, dissertations and other publications, such as unpublished manuscripts, received 39%, 12%, 4% and 3% of all citations, respectively. Turk Kutuphaneciligi (Turkish Librarianship), Resmi Gazete (Official Gazette), Journal of the American Society for Information Science & Technology, Library Trends and College & Research Libraries were among the most frequently cited journals. Yasar Tonta was the most cited author. The mean half-life of sources cited in dissertations was 8.4 years.
