Abstract

The molecule of the title compound, [NiZnBr2(C17H16N2O2)-(C6H7N)(2)], contains a heterodinuclear arrangement. The two metal ions are bridged via phenol O atoms of the propane-1,3-diylbis(nitrilomethylidyne)] diphenolate (salpd(2-)) ligand. The two bridging O atoms of salpd(2-) and two Br atoms constitute a distorted tetrahedral coordination environment around the Zn-II ion, while the Ni-II ion has a distorted octahedral coordination environment formed by two O and two N atoms of salpd(2-) in the equatorial plane and two N atoms of two 4-methylpyridine ligands in the axial positions. In the crystal structure, weak intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot Br hydrogen bonds link the molecules into chains along the c axis. Weak intramolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O and C-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds are also present.
