Özet

This chapter emphasizes the importance of creating accessible digital training materials and a technical sign language repertoire (TSLR) to enhance inclusivity enable accessibility, especially for the deaf and hard of hearing (HoH) individuals in technical fields. The research presents a systematic approach to develop TSLR in manufacturing engineering training materials, emphasizing aligned objectives, learner needs assessment, appropriate formats, and utilization of learning management systems. Essential success factors highlighted include interactivity, flexibility, regular assessments, content updates, and incentives. TSLR creation addresses challenges faced by deaf and HoH individuals in technical domains, tackling the lack of specialized signs. The study discusses two scenarios: sign development for absent concepts and formalization of existing signs. Plain language usage is prioritized for accessibility, focusing on clarity, conciseness, tailored language, optimized sentence structures, and clear technical term explanations. The study also details sign language material recording and presentation, emphasizing skilled narrators, collaboration with coaches and teams, and technical proficiency. Accessible training materials and TSLR significantly enhance inclusivity, bridging gaps, and empowering individuals, especially in technical professions. This study covers various aspects of effective online training programs, from delivery methods and platforms to engagement strategies, accessibility design, considerations for the deaf and HoH, and assessment materials. Adhering to these principles enables trainers to create inclusive training, promote lifelong learning and success, in a more effective manner.
