One of the current discussions on representative democracy is related with gender issue. Women have been politicized and socialized holding different social, economical and political interests due to their differentiated gender roles and relations. In that sense, it is agreed that the political involvement of women into decision-making process is definitely necessary for a more inclusive and democratic structure. However, women have been historically excluded from political decision-making mechanisms even in the democratic regimes. The aim of this study is to reveal the need and significance of women's political representation in democracies in the framework of descriptive and substantive representation models.
