Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of traction in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) therapy. Material and methods: Sixty subjects with CTS were randomly allocated to two groups. Thirty subjects in the control group were treated with a conservative treatment method composed of hot pack, therapeutic ultrasound and exercise. Subjects in the traction group (N=30) underwent the same treatment program plus mechanic traction. Treatment lasted 3 weeks (5 days/week). All subjects were evaluated before and after treatment and the evaluations included pain and functional statement scales. Results: Results of the study presented statistically significant differences after the treatment in both groups (p<0.05). Intergroup comparisons of severity of the pain and functional level were found to be significantly different in favour of the traction group (p<0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that traction can be used as a method, increasing the effectiveness of treatment in patients with CTS.
