Özet

© 2022,Milli Egitim. All Rights ReservedThe aim of this study is to examine the future expectations of adolescents on the basis of ecological approach and to make these expectations visible through adolescence experiences. In the study, some socio-demographic and socio-economic variables and the variable of being hopeful for the future were discussed. The research was carried out using a mixed method approach. In the quantitative part, 397 adolescents attending to 20 high schools from Altındağ district in Ankara during the 2016-2017 academic year were studied. The data were collected using the ‘Adolescent Future Expectations Scale’, and a ‘survey’ and a ‘semi-structured interview’ prepared by the researcher. In order to develop a deeper understanding of the results of the quantitative analysis, in-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 28 participants focusing on the future expectations. The analysis revealed that the expectations of work and education have priority over other expectations. It also shows that the school type, grade level, education level of the parents, opinion on the family income, the employment of the adolescent in an income-earning job, and the hope of the adolescents indicate significant differences in their future expectations. Especially, the adolescents who think that their family’s economic situation is good or are hopeful for the future have higher levels of future expectations
