A Research on Reading Habits of the Public Librarians in Ankara

Özet

This research, carried out by the descriptive method, aims to determine the level and quality of reading habits of the librarians working in public libraries in Ankara. In this study all staff with a degree in Departments of Information Management (Librarianship) and who serves on the library directors, deputy directors and librarian were defined as librarians. The scope of the research consists of 53 librarians working in public libraries in Ankara. In this survey, a questionnaire with 32 questions wasapplied, 38 responses were received from the questionnaire and 72% of the universe has been reached. According to the research result; librarians working in public libraries in Ankara have a moderate level of reading habits. Librarians read books in a selective but irregularway. While 53% of librarians think that they have reading habits, only 32% of public librarians have a high level of reading habits. Various suggestions are presented in the light of the results obtained in the research.
