Özet

While the Democrat Party was closed down aftermath the military coup of May 27, 1960, many politicians from the Democrat Party were arrested and tried before the court which had been set up in Yassiada. This condition also brought the question of towards which direction almost 4.5 million electorates who voted for the Democrat Party in 1957 elections would tend. With the leadership of Ragip Gumuspala, who assumed the duty of Chief of Staff after May 27, the Justice Party which had the claims to aspire the votes of the Democrat Party was founded. This party which incorporated many rightist politicians opposing the Republican People's Party (CHP) upon Turkey's transition to a multi-party system, polled 38,4 % of votes in elections of 1961 and reinforced the claim to be heir of the Democrat Party. Whilst the Party had been the most welcomed structure by the electorates in a short period of time, the rightist coalition in the Party also brought about the intra-party struggles. The intra-party struggle caused the people and establishments who wished to influence the party from outside, to take interest in the Justice Party. In this struggle, while the people considered to be representing the "extreme right" were described as "Extremists", the politicians considered to be at the position of the central right were referred as the "Centrists." Within this framework, Alparslan Turkes, who had become an important political figure by assuming the duty of Prime Ministry Undersecretariat after May 27, 1960, and his friends, who had been sent abroad on November 13, 1960 together with Alparslan Turkes on account of the purification in military coup, wished to penetrate the Justice Party both by the centrist politicians in the Justice Party and through the public opinion means. This course of relationship which had continued during 1960s and gained a different dimension when Turkes had been the president of the Republican Villagers Nation Party (RVNP), affected the politics of both the Justice Party and RVNP.
