Özet

Remarkable mechanical and highly biocompatible properties enable broad range usage of spider silk material in biomedical applications. The objective of this study was to evaluate in vivo wound healing effects of different types of surgical suture materials, which are Argiope bruennichi silk, Aloe vera coated A. bruennichi silk, commercial suture, A. vera coated commercial suture. The effects of silk materials were tested on dorsal skin flap (2 cm x 4 cm) model in rats. A control group (without any operation) was also included. Wistar male rats were dissected on post- operative day 7 and 14. The blood samples were taken for whole blood count and biochemical analysis (Aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, albumin, urea and creatine). Additionally, skin tissues of rats were dissected out for morphological and histopathological analysis. The wound healing process was evaluated morphologically by necrotic area/total flap area values. The measurements of flap regions were analyzed by ImageJ 1.52a software. According to the results, there were minor changes in some blood and biochemical parameters among different silk material groups. Besides, some histopathological changes were observed in necrotic and healed parts of skin tissues.
