© 2022During the most crucial periods of catastrophes and emergencies, Relief and Humanitarian Organizations (RHO) are constantly on the front lines. As a result, they are organized and empowered around the shared aim of delivering the needed “help” rapidly, completely, and affordably in the face of enormous uncertainties and difficulties. The most evident and vital help is the provision of shelter, through which all other help become relevant, feasible, and impactful with long-term effects. Providing rapid, low-cost, yet formidable, long-lasting, and weather-resistant shelter is a huge and pressing necessity during and after crises, catastrophes, and other natural, climate-change driven and man-made events such as floods, earthquake, sea-rise, tsunami, land sliding, fire and wars. Tents, modular buildings, transportable shelters, and other solutions must be dispatched for this purpose. However, such relief and humanitarian solutions are known to be slow, expensive, and insufficient resulting in incomplete and unsatisfactory for the needy and sometimes depressed masses. This study proposes a conceptual design of an autonomous D printing (3DP) system for rapid response to build critical civilian structures, shelters, and housing. The proposed Autonomous Mobile Rapid 3DP system is designed to be integrated with renewable energy; communication, surveillance, monitoring; local material synthesis and processing, preprocessing and optimization sub-systems to ensure that it can deliver the aimed solution fast, inexpensive, and sustainable manner. As an effective response to critical situations, the system seeks to access anywhere and anytime in the emergency and disaster area where civilian structures, shelters, and housing are needed immediately and start building using local soil, materials and labor with minimal distant needs and logistics.
