Özet

Purpose: The Amputee Body Image Scale (ABIS) is a 20 items scale created to measure body image perception of amputees. The questions assess how an individual perceives and experiences his or her body. The aim of this study was to measure validity of the Turkish version of ABIS. Material and methods: The sample consisted of 50 below knee amputees. The mean age of the subjects was 13.14 +/- 14.66 years. The ABIS was adapted to Turkish with standardized methods. The Nottingham Health Profile and State Trait Anxiety Inventory were applied to investigate validity of Turkish ABIS, Results: There was a significant relationship between personal factor of ABIS and social factor of AIMS and Trait Anxiety Inventory (r:0.292, p<0.05; r:0.358, p<0.05). There was a significant relationship between ABIS total score and Trait Anxiety Inventory (r:0.339, p<0.05) and The Nottingham Health Profile total score (r:0.315, p<0.05). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the ABIS is an easily understood and valid instrument to assess body image in below knee amputees.
