Project Abstract
In the present project, it is planned to study anti-inflammatory effect via in vitro and in vivo experiments, and to investigate the possible mechanism of action of Scutellaria rubicunda Hornem. subsp. brevibracteata J.R.Edm. aqueous extract, which is found to be effective in in vitro anti-inflammatory effect experiments (See Figure 1 and Figure 2) in the phD thesis of project coordinator (Doğan, 2018). Therefore, S. baicalensis, which is used clinically with its anti-inflammatory effect and facing the danger of extinction, will be replaced by Scutellaria rubicunda subsp. brevibracteata with the danger category of LC (the least worrisome) that is in the lowest risk category. In addition, with the data obtained from this study will be the first step in the screening study on the anti-inflammatory effects of Scutellaria species grown in Turkey. Researchers in our team have been working for many years in terms of different effects and phytochemical content of Scutellaria species (Saracoglu vd., 1992; Calis vd., 1993a; Calis vd., 1993b; Saracoglu vd., 1995; Ersoz vd., 2002; Dogan vd., 2013; Dogan vd., 2015; Dogan ve Saracoglu 2016; Dogan vd., 2016). When the project proposal is resulted successfully, a lot of Scutellaria species grown in Turkey will be quickly scanned with using the methods in this project. However, the phytochemical content of the effective species will be elucidated and alternative species can be suggested to the species used as medicine in the world.
