Proje Özeti
Today, a
large number of chemicals are used in industry, agriculture, house and the
other places and people and other living things found in nature, directly or
indirectly, exposure to them and as a result of this adverse effects observed.
With this man-made or natural chemicals which are known with their
endocrine-disrupting effects, there is a major concern in the world. The U.S.
Environmental Protection agency identified endocrine disruptors as an
environmental health problem. Especially
in the 2000s, many studies have been done about them, but they are still not
illuminated. Between these chemicals,
phthalates are located as used in the production of plastics. When phthalates
are unable to connect to plastics, they remain free and organisms expose to
them orally, dermally, or during medical procedures. Because of using as a
plasticizer in commercial products, food packaging materials, and biomedical
instruments, they often observe in food and the environment. Studies show
that in drinking water, in the air of
in-home and out-of-home, the amount is found quite high. Also, in commercial
products, baby bottles, baby toys, packaging of products such as milk, cheese,
chips, there is phthalate content. The most products which are used by babies
and little children contain phthalates and this increased interest of
investigation of the effects of them. DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate) is one
of the phthalates that found in nature and mostly used by people. In our study, we aim to investigate
DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate) which has C6H4(C8H17COO)2
formula. It is viscous and it is insoluble in water and soluble in oil. It is
used widely because of its price. People expose to it from food and water. It
is used in catheters, syringes, nasogastric tubes, dialysis materials, plastics
which blood store in, open air tubes and the other many medical materials.
Especially, the studies with dialysis patients showed that DEHP were found
highly in their blood. Several studies have been conducted
in animals shows that the high rate of accumulated in their body. It is aimed
to investigate the possible effects of these endocrine-disrupters
which are intensively used and exposured on the rats genotoxically, biochemically
and histologically.
