Proje Özeti

This interdisciplinary project investigates how perceptual decision-making abilities and metacognitive awareness are reflected in brain dynamics among Generation-Z university students. By combining electroencephalography (EEG), behavioral assessments, and artificial intelligence models, the study analyzes intrinsic resting-state functional brain networks alongside task-evoked neural patterns across healthy controls, twins/siblings, and students diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

Led by Dr. Aydın at Hacettepe University Department of Biophysics—in multidisciplinary collaboration with psychiatry, psychology, and computer science experts—the project systematically evaluates:

  • Neural Signatures: How decision accuracy, speed, and confidence map onto distinct brain networks.

  • Genetic & Environmental Drivers: The contribution of hereditary and environmental factors using twin and sibling cohorts across diverse academic disciplines.

  • Clinical Insights: Early age-specific neurophysiological markers that help differentiate depression profiles and inform clinical decision-support frameworks.

By identifying the neural underpinnings of metacognition and cognitive sensitivity, the findings aim to guide personalized educational protocols and foster novel AI-assisted psychiatric evaluation tools.
