Abstract:The study area is located 8 km southeast of Sivas, Kangal, Çetinkaya, in Divriği J39-d2 map. Within the scope of this thesis study, mineralogical and geochemical properties of iron mineralization in Sivas-Çetinkaya-Pınargözü were studied and their formation conditions were investigated.There are metamorphites, carbonates belonging to Tauride Platform and ophiolitic rocks in the basement of the study area, located between the Pontide and Tauride Platforms and these units are cut by magmatic rocks. All of these rocks are overlain by sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks of Tertiary unconformably.Iron mineralization in Sivas-Çetinkaya-Pınargözü, being mined since 1966, includes two existing open pits: Ana and Elkondu. Ore - wallrock relationship, type of formation, ore mineralogy and paragenesis in these open pits are the same.Iron mineralization developed in the form of lenses within the dioritic rocks or the contact of these rocks with serpentinites, parallel with the N60E trending fault line.Mineralization is observed as three different types along a vertical section. Ore body is observed as brecciated in top and bottom sections and massive in middle section. Ore mineral in the massive ore body and brecciated zone at the top section is hematite, yet manyetit and limonite also participate in paragenesis. Sulphite minerals (pyrite, chalcopyrite and millerite) participate in paragenesis in the brecciated zone at bottom section of mineralised zone.Intensive silica, carbonate, sericite, chlorite, phlogopite and talc alterations are observed in wall rock with mineralisation. Alteration zonality could not be distinguished. However, mineralised zone is associated with phlogopite zones. Mineralization formed in phlogopite zones along the structural units with genetic association.As geological, mineralogical and geochemical features of Çetinkaya Iron Deposits are considered, it can be concluded that iron mineralisation is of a metasomatic deposit, which developed along fault lines.
